Firstly, the model has to be associated with an expensive phone in terms of form-factor, rotating block’s presence. Nokia N90 was taken as an expensive prototype, at the moment it is the only phone with rotating block with camera. Another phone closely related to Nokia 3250 is Nokia N91, a music phone with hard drive. Nokia tries to focus attention of the press and consumers on the fact that 3250 is N91’s junior version, music capabilities are similar, although models are placed into two separate classes because of materials used and storage type. Nokia 3250 looks like an inexpensive, cheap analogue of the above mentioned products. But some of the advantages of elder handsets are projected on the junior model. This example of PR program deserves intent attention, this is a highly successful project.

Model’s design is unusual, for the first time one of the manufacturer was brave enough to place keypad on the rotating block. The difference between Nokia N90 is huge, since on that model rotating part was used only for camera, and it was not affecting the rest of the phone, it only mattered during photo sessions. The creation of such solution is only a devote to marketing, an attempt to associate Nokia 3250 with an elder model, it was technically possible to place camera module anywhere (in case with N90). On the other side rotating block in some Nokia 3350 will become essential in order to place three megapixel module and prevent phone’s size increase. In this model Nokia was testing out the design, what feedback it would receive. It was an attempt to find out weak spots during exploitation by users. Laboratories are of course usable, but collision with reality always results in pleasant and unpleasant surprises.

The covers of the phone are irremovable, which promises that its construction should be of the pretty solid ones. And it really is. All parts of the phone stick together very well, giving a strong impression of firmness. In other words, Nokia 3250’s body is one of the best on the entire mobile phones market. The lateral sides of the device, including those constituting part of the bottom rotary segment, are all made of metal. They close all parts of the body so firmly that it does not give a single creak or crunch. Both top and bottom areas of the metal lateral sides are decorated with plastic capsule.

At the back of the N95 8GB, the fiddly camera cover is gone. The advantage of not having a cover is that you no longer have to worry about the camera accidentally being activated in your pocket, which regularly happened on the original N95.
A minor but noteworthy feature is the N95 8GB’s black casing. It’s amazing how a change of colour can bring out a phone’s sexy side and we think Nokia may have sold even more original N95s if it had come in black.

When we look at N95 8GB from its left-hand side, we see that it’s an exact replica of the original, save for the absence of a memory card slot. The phone’s right, upper and lower part have not undergone any change and the arrangement of the keys and the connectors is identical with that of N95.The positioning of the camera has not changed, either: it is in the upper part of the phone’s back. The difference, however, is that the flash is under the lens and not on the right-hand side, like in N95. Another feature that is easy to notice is the lack of lens cover, which is probably due to the fact that Nokia have replaced the former 940 m?h battery with a new and thicker 1200 m?h one.

The ‘dual slider’ concept remains. The number pad slides out of one end, and out of the other, a bank of four buttons for controlling music playback. I wasn’t bowled over by the concept last time round and it doesn’t grab me much this time either, but as before, you can use these buttons to control music playback when you are in applications other than the music player, which could be handy.
As a quad-band 3G handset with front facing camera for video calling, the N95 8GB is nothing special. Nor does the 5-megapixel Carl Zeiss optics-toting main camera have the ‘wow’ factor it once did as there are plenty of 5-megapixel cameras on phones these days.

The Nokia N95 8GB has a larger screen, and in reality the 0.2″ do make a difference. The display truly looks larger than you might guess. The QVGA resolution stays the same and is adequate for providing great picture quality, especially when combined with the 16.7 million color support. Other benefits of Nokia N95 8GB over its predecessor is the doubled RAM, which makes the phone faster, even with more applications running in background. The card slot however has been ditched and this might seem perfectly coherent with the 8GB of storage space provided. On the other hand, a card slot can be very useful as a file transfer medium. Though not so frequently used, it’s worth having data transfer options. Another advantage of Nokia N95 8GB is the notably better battery life. Short battery life was probably the most criticized feature of the original N95, some heavy users reporting to have been forced to recharge a few times a day. Now, with the 1200 mAh and the demand-paging feature enabled, the Nokia N95 8GB is a real step up. The fact that only the most essential parts of the programs are loaded in the RAM memory with the rest remaining on the mass or phone memory until it is needed reduces the memory-needs of the phone and therefore increase the battery life. However, it is not all milk and honey for the Nokia N95-2. The spoon of tar is the removed camera lens cover. The newly released phone relies only on a slight recess for camera lens protection from dirt and smudgy fingers.

Nokia has really pushed the boat out with its marketing of the swish new N95. You’d be hard pressed not to have seen an advert or two boasting the wide array of features and capabilities of the phone as a ‘total mobile solution’.

After a quick look at the specs it’s not hard to see why: the most notable of inclusions is the presence of a built-in GPS receiver, the first phone of its kind to have one. There’s also a 5-megapixel digital camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and powerful multimedia support that compares nicely to modern multimedia players.

The N95 is a 3G phone, so above the screen sits the customary videocall camera. Alongside that is a light sensor and the earpiece. Below the screen is a typical slider-phone control cluster: five-way navigation key surrounded by not one but two Menu keys, soft-menu buttons, call make and break buttons.

The N95 is silver-look plastic, set in a wraparound burgundy rubber-texture piece. The red sides are home to the two stereo speakers, camera controls, volume rocker switch, MicroSD slot - under, for once, a cover that’s easy to open - infrared port and AV output. On the back is the autofocus camera and Carl Zeiss lens under a manually opened cover. You’ll find the new, skinny style power socket and a mini USB port on the phone’s base.

The front of the N93i includes a mirrored finish with a hidden LCD screen that looks very impressive, but we can’t help but feel that it will be covered with scratches in no time. The keypad comprises a flat metal surface with well-spaced buttons, while the rest of the N93i is finished in silver plastic with a contrasting dark grey surface used on the underside. The most striking element, however, is the Carl Zeiss Vario-Tessar autofocus lens as used in Sony’s very successful slim range of digital cameras.

The integrated digital camera allows you to record high-quality videos in MP4 format at 30 frames per second and with 640 x 480 resolution. The software preinstalled in the N810, Vanjoki said, includes video and music players, as well as Web applications such as a browser, the Internet-telephony software Skype, Gizmo video chat, instant messaging, and GPS-integrated mapping tools. The device’s processor operates at 400 megahertz; it has 128 megabits of random-access memory, two gigabytes of internal storage, and an expansion slot that can accommodate up to eight gigabytes more.

With the N810, Nokia has added a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a built-in GPS receiver. Nokia also stuffed 2GB of built-in memory inside, with a miniSD card slot for expanded storage. The N810 retains many of the hardware features of the N800, such as a built-in VGA resolution camera for video calling, hardware buttons for zooming in and out on the interface, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The N810 uses a micro-USB port for data transfer and also sports a built-in kickstand for convenience.”

In addition, out of the box it lacks many of the features a lot of you are accustomed to in a handheld. It doesn’t come with a calendar, for example, and the N810’s address book is there to let you send people email or instant messages. You can’t put a street address into it.Also, despite being made by Nokia, this isn’t a smartphone. It has Wi-Fi, and you can use a Bluetooth-enabled phone as a wireless modem, but I know for some people this is a significant drawback.

The N800 webcam extended from the side of the device and could be rotated, whereas the N810 webcam is embedded in the face. Right above the webcam on the N810 is an ambient light sensor, which the software uses to automatically adjust screen brightness and keyboard backlighting. The top left corner of the N810 has a big notification light that will flash in various colors to indicate certain kinds of events, like when new e-mail is received. On the inside, the N810 has pretty much the same hardware as the N800. It uses the same TI OMAP 2420 processor. The N800 was clocked to 330Mhz by default, but OS2008 brings up the clock speed to 400 Mhz. The increase in clock speed is controlled by the software, so N800 users who upgrade to OS2008 will get the same boost. Like the N800, the N810 still comes with 128MB of DDR RAM and 256MB of flash memory.
