Nokia has really pushed the boat out with its marketing of the swish new N95. You’d be hard pressed not to have seen an advert or two boasting the wide array of features and capabilities of the phone as a ‘total mobile solution’.

After a quick look at the specs it’s not hard to see why: the most notable of inclusions is the presence of a built-in GPS receiver, the first phone of its kind to have one. There’s also a 5-megapixel digital camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and powerful multimedia support that compares nicely to modern multimedia players.

The N95 is a 3G phone, so above the screen sits the customary videocall camera. Alongside that is a light sensor and the earpiece. Below the screen is a typical slider-phone control cluster: five-way navigation key surrounded by not one but two Menu keys, soft-menu buttons, call make and break buttons.

The N95 is silver-look plastic, set in a wraparound burgundy rubber-texture piece. The red sides are home to the two stereo speakers, camera controls, volume rocker switch, MicroSD slot - under, for once, a cover that’s easy to open - infrared port and AV output. On the back is the autofocus camera and Carl Zeiss lens under a manually opened cover. You’ll find the new, skinny style power socket and a mini USB port on the phone’s base.

The Nokia N95 is a 3G Smartphone which comes is a clever two way slider opening mechanism. The phone can be opened either way which provides the user with a keypad when the screen is moved in the up position, a set of multimedia controls when the screen is moved in the down position & when in the closed position the user can use the navigation & shortcut keys. The user can use their Nokia N95 in landscape mode which is when the screen is moved to the down position which is ideal for all multimedia purposes & accessing the Internet. The screen is 2.6 Inches in size & provides a 240 x 320 pixel screen resolution on a 16 million colour TFT display. The mobile handset weighs only 120 gram which is unbelievable considering all the built in technology & capabilities. The Nokia N95 measures 99 x 53 x 21 mm which provides the user with a useable handset which has a solid feel to it.

Up to 262,144 colors, 176 x 208 pixels display

The Nokia N91 is a mobile phone that was released to the public in April of 2006. It is part of the Nokia Nseries range of mobile phone. It features a 2-megapixel camera and a 4GB (8GB in the “new” 2006 version) hard disk to store approximately 3,000 songs encoded in either AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, MP3, mp3PRO, WAV, MIDI, or Microsoft’s WMA format. It also features 3G and wi-fi technology. The phone features a 176 x 208, 262,144 colours TFT LCD display and dedicated music functionality buttons (XpressMusic) that slide down to reveal traditional mobile phone keys. Battery life when solely playing music has been estimated at 12 hours.

The phone features a new version of the Symbian Series 60 Operating System. It was the first phone with this version (Symbian version 9.1, Series 60 version 3.0). The new version is needed for the support of a mechanical hard disk. In the past, the version of the Symbian operating system has been a good indicator of cpu speed.

There are two things you’ll notice about the Nokia N91: it’s flashy and it’s big. À la the Nokia 8800, the all-silver N91 is certainly eye-catching, but at 4.4 by 2.2 by 0.9 inches and 5.8 ounces, the slider phone is on the larger and heftier side, making for a tight fit in a pants pocket. Even by the standards of music players, the Nokia N91 is still big and heavy. By comparison, the 4GB Cowon iAudio 6 measures 2.7 by 1.2 by 0.7 inches and 2.1 ounces. That said, the solidly constructed N91 is comfortable to hold in the hand.

The left side of the phone features a connector for the USB cable, enclosed in the retail package, and a swing volume control button. The loud speaker grill is just below the volume button. It is a pity that Nokia designers have not mounted another loud speaker on the opposite side of the body. It would have come in handy. Nokia N91 loud speaker is among the best on the market. Yet, its loudness is not sufficient for listening to music on a busy street. As it seems, Nokia 3250 remains the phone with the most powerful loud speaker in the entire Nokia family.

The Nokia N91 features a 2.2-inch-diagonal screen that shows off 262,000 colors, but it’s lower in resolution than the Nokia N80 (176×208 vs. 325×416 pixels), so text and images aren’t as sharp. Below the display are two customizable soft keys, the Talk and End buttons, and a five-way navigation toggle. In its closed state, the front cover also holds the music player controls: music access, play/pause, stop, next, and previous. Interestingly, there appears to be a select button in the middle of this control pad, but you can’t press it, and it doesn’t seem to serve a purpose.

The software preinstalled in the N810, Vanjoki said, includes video and music players, as well as Web applications such as a browser, the Internet-telephony software Skype, Gizmo video chat, instant messaging, and GPS-integrated mapping tools. The device’s processor operates at 400 megahertz; it has 128 megabits of random-access memory, two gigabytes of internal storage, and an expansion slot that can accommodate up to eight gigabytes more.

With the N810, Nokia has added a slide-out QWERTY keyboard and a built-in GPS receiver. Nokia also stuffed 2GB of built-in memory inside, with a miniSD card slot for expanded storage. The N810 retains many of the hardware features of the N800, such as a built-in VGA resolution camera for video calling, hardware buttons for zooming in and out on the interface, and a 3.5mm audio jack. The N810 uses a micro-USB port for data transfer and also sports a built-in kickstand for convenience.”

In addition, out of the box it lacks many of the features a lot of you are accustomed to in a handheld. It doesn’t come with a calendar, for example, and the N810’s address book is there to let you send people email or instant messages. You can’t put a street address into it.Also, despite being made by Nokia, this isn’t a smartphone. It has Wi-Fi, and you can use a Bluetooth-enabled phone as a wireless modem, but I know for some people this is a significant drawback.

The N800 webcam extended from the side of the device and could be rotated, whereas the N810 webcam is embedded in the face. Right above the webcam on the N810 is an ambient light sensor, which the software uses to automatically adjust screen brightness and keyboard backlighting. The top left corner of the N810 has a big notification light that will flash in various colors to indicate certain kinds of events, like when new e-mail is received. On the inside, the N810 has pretty much the same hardware as the N800. It uses the same TI OMAP 2420 processor. The N800 was clocked to 330Mhz by default, but OS2008 brings up the clock speed to 400 Mhz. The increase in clock speed is controlled by the software, so N800 users who upgrade to OS2008 will get the same boost. Like the N800, the N810 still comes with 128MB of DDR RAM and 256MB of flash memory.

The Nokia N81 & Nokia N81 8GB are members of the Nokia N-Series which includes other popular phones including the Nokia N73, Nokia N77 & the Nokia N95. The N81 & N81 8GB are identical in design & features but come with differing memory options & the phones have different colour options on their casing. The Nokia N81 & Nokia N81 8GB come with a Nokia headset with remote control, connectivity cable, compact travel charger & battery but the Nokia N81 comes with a 2 Gbyte MicroSD™ memory card. The N81 comes with an expandable memory options which allows the user to add memory card to suit their storage needs & the start up kit includes a 2 Gbyte MicroSD™ memory card. The N81 is mainly black in colour with highlights of coloured edging around the casing & the navigation wheel. The N81 comes in a choice of two colours which are graphite grey & cobalt blue. The Nokia N81 8GB comes with 8 Gbytes of internal flash memory which allows the user to store much data on their new handset. The N81 8GB also comes with coloured edging around the casing & navigation wheel which are subtly coloured cocoa brown. The handset is solid & robust in design which weighs 140 grams & the overall measurements are 17.9mm deep by 50mm wide by 102mm high. The Nokia N81 & N81 8GB are beautiful in design & in capabilities. The phones are 3G capable handsets complete with WLAN technology. The phones are media, music & internet focused handsets which come with a simple slide opening casing complete with easy access music, video & function keys. The user can enjoy viewing the large screen when the handsets are open or closed. The screen is large measuring 2.4 inches with a high screen resolution & displays up to sixteen million colours for a quality viewing experience.
Nokia N80 has one of the best LCD displays, with a resolution of 352 x 416 pixels and boasting 262,144 colours. The 3 mega-pixel camera in the phone takes good pictures and has a 20x digital zoom and flash. However, the quality of photographs is no where near to the ones taken by Nokia N90. The phone has an advanced music player, which allows you to pick your favourite music track from a displayed play list. The audio quality of Nokia n80 is considered to be very good and the package includes a stereo headset. The phone comes with a 128 MB memory card, which is enough a storage space for your music files. It plays, MP3, AAC, m4a, eAAC+ and WMA format music tracks.

When the N81 8GB is closed while hiding the numeric keypad, I counted 18 buttons just on the front part of the phone! If two of those buttons are the dedicated gaming keys, that means the other 16 buttons are packed together with the Naviwheel. Let’s see the keys in that area: green call, red end-call, left soft-key, right soft-key, main menu, multimedia menu, clear, play/pause, stop, forward, back, left, right, up, down, and center.

Even though there’s a lot of buttons in that part of the phone, Nokia does a great job illuminating only the necessary buttons depending on what you are using. For example, the music keys are dimmed and the gaming keys are off when using the phone in general. When the music player is on, the music keys light up. The gaming keys lights up when playing an N-gage game and also when used to zoom in or out of photos in the gallery.
The Nokia N81 8GB came with earphones that go around the back of your neck. It connects to a middle piece where you can control music or pick up phone calls. I prefer regular earphones that go down my neck, but joggers like the ones that go around the neck because it doesn’t fall out easily. You can also use your own earphones if you like, but, people are starting to use bluetooth headphones to listen to music on their phones. You can find out more about Nokia’s new bluetooth headsets at Non Stop Living.

The Nokia N80 is a little cell phone, short and stout. In its closed state, the slider phone measures 3.7 by 1.9 by 1.0 inches and weighs 4.7 ounces. Though the form factor is compact, it’s on the thicker side, so it’ll make for a tight fit in a pants pocket. Despite the bulk, it’s comfortable–though a little slippery–to hold in the hand, and its all-black case is attractive; the phone is available in stainless steel as well.
The Nokia N80 has a beautiful 2.2-inch screen that boasts 262,144 hues at 325×416-pixel resolution. Colors pop, and text and images are extrasharp; it’s certainly one of the best cell phone displays we’ve seen to date. Below it you’ll find two soft keys, the Talk and End buttons, a four-way navigation toggle with a center select function, an edit key, a menu shortcut, a multimedia key, and a Clear button. For the most part, the controls are easy to use, but the toggle and the select button are a bit small, so you have to press them carefully.

The N80 is a 3G smartphone, so it benefits from a wide range of advanced software, plus excellent functionality and connectivity. However, it’s one of the most buggy and unstable phones around. Perhaps future firmware upgrades will fix these problems, but for now its an unreliable phone. Its also very slow, both to boot up and in operation.
The N80 has an advanced music player with support for playlists and easy access to your favourite music tracks. Audio quality is excellent and a stereo headset is included in the sales package. There’s plenty of space for storing music too - a 128 Mbyte memory card is included as standard, in addition to the 40 Mbytes of internal memory.
