The Nokia 6270 is a compact & modern designed camera phone which comes in a choice of light blue, dark brown & silver coloured casing. The handset has beautifully polished metal surfaces which are combined with satin for a perfect finish. The handset has a slide opening mechanism which slides down to reveal a useable & spaced out keypad. The handset weighs 125 grams & measures 104 x 50 x 23 mm which feels good in the users had & makes it easy for the user to open the phone with one hand. The Nokia 6270 is from the same Nokia family as the Nokia 6280 & both phones share the same slide opening mechanism.
The 6270 has a colourful 262k colour TFT screen which provides the user with a clear 320 x 240 pixel resolution display. The user can view the screen when the phone is in the open or closed position. The phone has a 2 megapixel camera complete with 5 x digital zoom & LED flash feature. The user can take their snaps in either portrait or landscape mode & the full screen works beautifully as a viewfinder. The 6270 comes with 9 Mbytes of internal memory with a 128 Mbytes miniSD card which allows the user to store & save their snaps on their phone & view them at any time. The Nokia 6270 has a user friendly video record feature which comes complete with a video player & streaming facility.
Sporting a vivid 262K colour screen with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixels, the 6270 scores high in the display department. The large screen also enables the introduction of a concept dubbed the ‘active standby’ screen by Nokia, where shortcut icons, recent notes and FM radio status are neatly displayed and rapidly accessed. As with the recently reviewed Nokia 6111, the 6270 also offers Series 40 upgrades such as being able to mark several messages for simultaneous deletion. Minor improvements aside, however, the interface of the 6270 for the most part remains similar in look and feel to that of previous Nokia handsets.
The Nokia 6270 also features a 2 Megapixel camera, snapping stills of good quality in daylight and of adequate quality in darker environments. Aiming to assimilate the functions of a dedicated camera, the phone’s display, which acts as a viewfinder, automatically switches to landscape mode when the camera is activated. Its various options are then easily adjusted by means of the action buttons and volume buttons, with the handset also offering video recording at 176 x 144 pixels. Both stills and videos can quickly be added to MMS messages from within the camera application.
Built on the third edition of the 40the platform, this phone is also one of the first to realize all capabilities of the platform. And a screen with big diagonal length helps much. User memory forms 10.5 MB; however they can access only 5MB from the beginning. A feature of little memory is traditional for Nokia; similarly to Motorola they consider that if you need more you can buy a memory card. A 128 MB card is included into the package, which will be enough for the first time, however it is obviously too little for comfortable player use. The next peculiarity of the handset is all files received via Bluetooth from other devices (PC and PDA, which examine the file structure of the phone are exceptions) are saved in the internal memory by default. And thus its small size prevents from receiving big files, like mp3 music. We can’t call such memory organization convenient considering that many people prefer to store photos and melodies in the phone’s memory. Voluntarily or not, the company pushes to use a PC for loading new content or over the air download, but not from other devices. While downloading data via Bluetooth it is impossible to change the destination folder for received files. Some phone’s functions are realized peculiarly. The gallery features a special folder, which holds all received files, and certainly this connection to it prevents from changing the destination place.
